Wellhouse Farm Barn and New detached house, Mirfield

Wellhouse Farm lies to the north west of Mirfield, formerly a mill town but now essentially a ‘commuter town’ located between Huddersfield and Leeds, in the Calder valley.

Wellhouse Farmhouse and its attached barn are Grade ll listed. The house, which dates from 1576, is adjoined to the barn, possibly part of the original house, but clearly partly rebuilt and much altered during the Victorian era.

Though the farmhouse remains in occupation, the barn section is currently on Kirklees Council’s ‘Buildings at Risk’ register, being in an advanced state of dereliction, and has been so since its abandonment and partial collapse during the 1980s.

Following an options appraisal Calls Architecture have achieved planning permission and listed building consent to re-build the failed part of the listed structure, along with ‘enabling’ residential development on the site.
